In May of last year we exchanged some e-mails with Chris Prom about the
issue of using letters in the number field of the classification
manager. This was his advice:

"Go into the MySQL server or SQL server where the raw archon database is
stored.  Once in, open the Table titled tblCol_Classifications, then
change the field type for the 'Number' field from 'int' or 'number' to
'varchar' I'd choose a relatively short field length, such as 10
characters."

It seems to have worked.

I'm curious as to how this worked as well. The database fields are
designated as INTs, so even if you edited the php, the database would
still try to reject your letters.

On this subject, though, we're considering relaxing the requirement that
classifications have numbers. No guarantees at the moment, but this
change may appear in a release sometime in the near future.
