With apologies since I have very little (none really :-)) if any
experience with EAD-DTD. I've had difficulty trying to use it to
import our current XML documents into archon. tested on v.1.0
From what I can tell by running the cmp on my unix machine is that
there is a subtle difference between the way our institution labels
containers, dates and subjects. The result is that the XML will get
imported but some key elements which are of importance to our Special
Collections department are getting left out.
We wrote a few hacks to clean up our XML documents to best mimic
UIUCs XML documents -which we assume would have to work since it was
invented there. :-). (Here also I speculate that the lack of EAD-DTD
experience can be blamed)
We were nominally successful in this venture but the date range still
seems to give our Special Collections librarian pause in fully
endorsing/embracing Archon :-(
I was wondering if there was anyone who can shed insight on this. I
am happy to share our hacks. Or should we just gain expertise on EAD?
Thanks in advance.
