Good morning-

I've having a problem restoring a MySQL database I used last year while testing out Archon and was hoping someone might have some suggestions on fixing this issue. I installed Archon v1.0 last year on a "live" server I have for personal use. I did spend a significant amount of time populating the database, but felt there might be security issues running and editing a liver version of Archon. So I decided to install XAMPP and work off a local machine while I was getting comfortable with the software. I did backup the Archon MySQL database I populated as an SQL file as well as the installed files.

So a few days ago I downloaded and installed Archon v1.1, but have realized my earlier backup procedures lacked some foresight. I cannot figure out how to "swap" for lack of a better term, the newly-created Archon database with my earlier version. And I know I shouldn't have assumed it would be so easy because the Archon database not only contains collection information, but other data that might cause problems with a new installation.

I even contemplated cutting and pasting portions of the SQL file (like INSERT into TABLE...) to re-populate my new installation of Archon as a last resort, but it was too much trouble. I sure wish I'd printed out some of the records so I could just re-type the data into Archon.

Anyway-does anyone have any suggestions on how to re-install Archon using data from an earlier installation's MySQL database? Any ideas would be helpful.

One final point-how are others using Archon backing up their MySQL databases. I know many database admins. use a function/program called "cron" or "pseudo-cron" for this purpose.

Thanks much for any help.
